It’s very important that a program like FoodShare be a collaborative effort involving the community. We’ve involved local churches, community leaders, civic groups, and governmental agencies in order to facilitate referrals, broaden ownership and avoid duplication of services. This has also facilitated the recruitment of reliable volunteers with a “customer service” orientation, which is crucial.Before FoodShare, several area churches operated food pantries; however, they relied entirely on food donations and their supply was intermittent. Now, churches are sending their resources to FoodShare for management and distribution.
